Yvonne “Vonnie” LaKose of Cedar Rapids went to meet the Lord on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

Vonnie was born on December 26, 1933 in Iowa City to Carroll and Vera (Orris) Hanshaw.  She was the youngest of four sisters (Violet, Bertha, Delores) and one older brother (Bud).

Vonnie was united in marriage to Dean LaKose March 15, 1963.  They had four children, 28 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren (and counting!).

Vonnie was truly one of a kind. She loved the Lord with all her heart and that overflowed to anyone she knew.  Her quick wit and sense of humor brought laughter in any situation.  She made friends wherever she went.  While she had several jobs during her lifetime, her favorite job was being a mom to her four children.  She also had a deep love for blankets, applesauce, and she never missed an opportunity to buy a knick knack she saw if it reminded her of someone, she loved to give to them as a gift.  She is already missed by so many.

She is survived by her two sisters Bertha Long, and Delores Brown as well as her three children, Gary (Lori) LaKose, Deana (Dan) Schinke, and Dennis (Jessica) LaKose.

Vonnie was preceded in death by her sister Violet, her brother Bud, her son Jerry LaKose and her beloved husband of 53 years, Dean LaKose.  We know she is finally enjoying being reunited with them in heaven.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 14th from 4pm-7pm at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, August 15th at 2pm at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Pastor Rick Gail officiating. A livestream of the service will be available on the Cedar Memorial website under the obituary for Yvonne under the video tab starting on Sunday, August 15 at 2 PM.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at the Terrace Glen Village for all the love and support they showed Vonnie while she was in their care.
