Get to Know CCHS Teacher - Mallory Lenhart

What subjects and grade levels do you teach at Central Catholic?
I teach freshman World Studies and English. I am also one of the varsity assistant volleyball coaches.


Where did you teach before coming to CCHS?
Last year, I was a student teacher at Jefferson Junior High School in the Washington Local School District.  I taught seventh grade World History.

What is your educational background?
I graduated from Bedford High School in Temperance, Mich., and Lourdes University in Sylvania as a pre-art therapy major.  Last year, I received a master’s degree in social studies education from The University of Toledo.


What inspired you to become a teacher?
I grew up surrounded by people that deeply value education and mentorship.  My grandfather was a principal, my grandmother taught nursing, my mother taught kindergarten, my uncle teaches special education, and my aunt is a school counselor.  I discovered my own love of educating as I coached during the final seasons of my collegiate volleyball career.  I have always loved learning, especially about the arts and humanities.  When the pandemic hit, I was inspired to return to school to become a teacher with the goal of helping the next generation develop skills to be successful in life and to make great contributions to the world.  Teaching history is a wonderful privilege because I get to help students orient themselves in time, uncover their ability to think critically, and construct new ideas.


What made you want to become a teacher at Central Catholic?
I have always known that Central Catholic was a very special place, as I have had many friends pass through these halls.  I knew I wanted to teach at CCHS when I met a group of the students during the interview process.  Not only were they welcoming and well-mannered, but they displayed obvious pride in their school and true respect for each other.  Aside from the tightly-knit community, I was drawn to Central because of the commitment to the Catholic faith.  Every moment on the Central Catholic campus is a reminder to redirect thoughts and actions to become more holy disciples of Christ.


What are your impressions of CCHS so far?
I am stunned by the amount of tradition that lives within the halls of Central Catholic.  Just when I think I know them all, there are more!  The passion, commitment, and loyalty displayed by the students and alumni of Central Catholic is indisputable.  The students and alumni are not only committed to the endurance of Central Catholic, but the city of Toledo as well.  It is clear that, once you have attended or worked at Central Catholic, it remains with you forever.
