Dr. Florian Schwarz, CIO & Executive Vice President IT
The Independent Automotive Aftermarket (IAM) deals with the distribution, retailing, manufacturing, remanufacturing and installation of all equipment and accessories, after the sale of the automobile by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to the consumer. Currently, the industry is undergoing a major transformation. Digitization, new mobility concepts, and globalization are no longer just theoretical megatrends but changes the daily business and business processes. Global players and SMEs alike must adapt to current market developments and gear their business models and organizations towards the digital future. The opportunities of today and tomorrow lie in flexible and digitally networked ecosystems. To enable them to take advantage of these opportunities, TecAlliance accompanies and supports all players of the IAM through the digital transformation: with data-driven solutions and comprehensive consulting services for effective and efficient business processes and an easier day-to-day-business. For over 20 years, TecAlliance has been one of the world’s leading data specialists for networked collaboration in the digital automotive aftermarket. The core business consists of data research, preparation, and standardization and the innovative development of solutions and applications to digitize business processes. Today more than 600 qualified TecAlliance employees from 26 nations are working around the world, using their profound technical and business knowledge of the automotive aftermarket to make data and processes more efficient.
The TecAlliance portfolio includes up-to-date OE-based vehicle and spare parts data on the basis of the TecDoc Standard, comprehensive repair and maintenance information as well as integrated solutions and consulting services for digital order handling, fleet management and market and data analysis in the automotive aftermarket.
We must transform ourselves so that we can be the pioneers and partners for innovative business solutions for our customers
Furthermore, TecAlliance maintains one of the largest motor vehicle spare parts databases worldwide, which simultaneously provides the basis to develop applications that its customers use to optimize their business processes: The TecDoc Catalogue is one of the world's leading and most comprehensive automotive aftermarket catalogs. It is based on the internationally recognized "TecDoc Standard" developed by TecAlliance. For all involved, the TecDoc Standard represents a reliable seal of quality for high-grade OE-based spare parts information and data.
At present, TecAlliance primarily focuses the issue of “Digital Disruption,” which reveals itself, among other things, with the new EU Type Approval Procedure 2020. This specifies that vehicle manufacturers must provide the vehicle data in machine-readable format. As a result, huge volumes of data that are frequently updated will come into the market, where they must be recorded and processed. As one of the leading specialists for data management in the independent automotive aftermarket (IAM), TecAlliance considers it its job to prepare the masses of data for the market accordingly. Presently TecAlliance is developing proceedings with artificial intelligence, i.e., self-learning systems, to do this. With these systems TecAlliance will generate information, recognize images and create texts from Big Data with machine learning – all this to provide its customers the information that they require for their daily business, in even better quality.
Internally in 2018, TecAlliance has been concentrating on its Agile Transformation and the significant advancements of its IT structures and the organization in general. “Agile Transformation for us means that we set up our teams, our processes, and our IT landscape so that we can serve our customers even more flexible and in a more focused manner while developing our digital solutions. We must transform ourselves so that we can be the pioneers and partners for innovative business models for our customers”, states Dr. Florian Schwarz, CIO and Executive Vice President IT.
Beyond that, the focus of TecAlliance continues to remain clear on a future-orientated solution developed to meet the needs of its customers. A recent example is the digital voice assistant that TecAlliance and Continental have developed in a joint innovation initiative for use in motor vehicle workshops. The proof of concept was perceived very positive by the market at the most recent Automechanika in Frankfurt. One of the success factors: The developers, testers, product managers and DevOps engineers of TecAlliance work hand in hand. They involve customers in the Sprints and Daily stand-ups so that they can actively participate in product design.
TecAlliance attaches great value to global presence and availability achieving this by being on the spot and speaking the languages of its customers. “Our products, solutions, and services are already available in up to 35 languages and used in more than 140 countries on six continents", explains Dr. Florian Schwarz. And TecAlliance continues to expand its regional presence, among others in South America, India, Australia, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia. The worldwide presence enables TecAlliance help to shape the digital change
