Man United launch an investigation into the high number of injuries they have picked up this season - with eight senior players currently unavailable to Erik ten Hag

Manchester United have launched an investigation into why their first-team squad has suffered so many injuries.

With the Premier League season just eight matches in, no fewer than 16 players have been injured or unavailable to manager Erik ten Hag so far.

That situation has ensured that the Dutchman has been unable to pick his first choice XI once this season, with new signings Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount among those affected.

JOE BERNSTEIN: Harry Maguire is finally sticking up for himself after growing tired of being the national punchbag... by talking up a January move, the Man United defender is taking control of his own destiny

Having been a national punchbag for a couple of years, Harry Maguire decided to come out fighting this week ahead of Friday night's match against Australia and it looks as if the 30-year-old Manchester United and England star is finally ready to put himself first.

After taking the ridicule and abuse from supporters of all kinds, including himself, Maguire has won admiration for the way he's handled it all and there was sympathy as he firmly backed his record, citing his 'ridiculous win percentage' and refusal to 'sit here all my life and play once a month'.

Why now to shift the narrative from victim to a man ready to take control of his own destiny?

Onana 'reluctant' to join up with Cameroon for AFCON after Ten Hag promise

Andre Onana is reportedly so committed to be a success at Manchester United that he is reluctant to join up with Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations, after telling Erik ten Hag he did not want to end his international retirement.

The 27-year-old replaced David De Gea at Old Trafford following a £47million move from Ajax, but his first three months in England have been disappointing.

Onana has kept just three cleans sheets in 11 appearances in all competitions, conceding 12 goals in eight Premier League appearances.

Man United legend Eric Cantona announces release of debut album ahead of a SOLD-OUT tour... with his EP containing 'a swaggering rock offering' and a 'psychedelic trip-hop' song

Eric Cantona's venture into the world of music has taken another step, with the Manchester United legend set to release his debut album, ahead of a sell-out tour.

The 57-year-old Frenchman released his first single 'The Friends We Lost' back in June, with the former striker singing about 'laughing and drinking with the vampires' in a moody video to coincide with the song.

'King Eric's' transformation into a musician, which probably comes as little surprise to those that have followed his career and even after his retirement, moves another step forward this month.

Marcus Rashford is down in the dumps, the muddle in midfield, Andre Onana's false start - and a crippling injury list... Man United's issues that Erik ten Hag MUST turn around

Manchester United's remarkable comeback against Brentford has lifted the mood around Old Trafford after Scott McTominay's two injury-time goals averted a third home defeat in a week and sent Erik ten Hag and his players into the international break on a high.

But Ten Hag won't be fooled into thinking it has solved United's early-season problems with his team lying 10th in the Premier League table and bottom of Group A in the Champions League following back-to-back defeats.

There is plenty for the Dutchman to ponder before United return to action at Sheffield United a week on Saturday.

Scott McTominay has STUNNING free-kick against Spain harshly ruled out for an offside... as Scotland and Man United star slams water bottle down in frustration after controversial VAR decision

Scotland were left ruing a controversial decision to rule out Scott McTominay's free-kick as Steve Clarke's side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain in Seville.

McTominay thought he had given Scotland the lead in the Euro 2024 qualifier in a match where a draw would have been enough to seal their place in the tournament.

The Scots were however handed a bitter blow after captain Andy Robertson was forced to leave the field with a suspected shoulder dislocation, with the Liverpool star unable to see out the first half.

David Beckham claims there has been 'no discussion at the moment' about him making a sensational return to Man United as an ambassador if Qatar's Sheikh Jassim completes £5bn takeover

David Beckham has poured cold water on the idea he could become an ambassador for Manchester United if the Glazer family sell to Qatar's Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

Beckham previously struck a deal to partner with Qatar for the FIFA World Cup last year as he took on a tournament ambassador role, despite plenty of criticism.

But despite Qatar's ongoing attempt to purchase his former club, Beckham claims there has been 'no discussion' of him holding any role should their takeover bid be successful.
