The stars are out in force for the Vegas Grand Prix, with David BeckhamĀ arriving trackside for Saturday night's race alongside a host of famous names.

Beckham was hosting a race night party alongside Shaquille O'Neal and the two made an arrival together in Vegas around three hours before the race began.

The Inter Miami co-owner and Manchester United soccer legend was there with his son Cruz - the pair also posing together for pictures ahead of their Sports Illustrated party.Ā

Usain Bolt, the fastest man on two feet, was also pictured arriving in Vegas for the penultimate race of the season.

Gordon RamsayĀ - a big Formula One fan - was also making an early arrival to the track and there were also a couple of notable influencers making an appearance.

There was even former LA Galaxy and AC Milan footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attendance as he greeted O'Neal.

Veronika Rajek left little to the imagination in her purple outfit that defied the cool 52 Fahrenheit temperatures around the track in hours leading up the start.Ā

Alix Earle, the TikTok star who is dating NFL and Miami Dolphins player Braxton Berrios, was also sharing pictures from around the track.

For race organizers, there was a huge weight of expectation on Sin City after a difficult couple of days building up to the showpiece event.

The first practice session was derailed by a loose drain cover on the track, ending the spectacle after only eight minutes when Carlos Sainz's Ferrari was damaged.Ā

Charles Leclerc, Sainz's Ferrari teammate, begins the race in pole position on Saturday night.Ā

Amid the race week concerns, ticket sales have also disappointed.Ā

Sales on the secondary-ticket market were surging for Saturday night's Las Vegas Grand Prix, but plenty of tickets were on sale on the Ticketmaster site for the Formula One race as of early in the afternoon.

Race CEO Renee Wilm promised on the November 3 earnings call by Formula One Group that 'we will be sold out by the time of the event.' Barring an eleventh-hour surge, the race will fall short of that prediction.

The first-year LVGP ā€” beset by a number of on- and off-track issues that have tempered the enthusiasm of race fans, Las Vegas locals and even drivers ā€” didn't waste any time putting tickets on sale for next year. Beginning Saturday, fans can put down a deposit beginning at $250 for the race, which is November 21-23, 2024.

When tickets were originally put on sale for Saturday's race about a year ago, the cheapest was $500. Nevada residents later were offered a limited number of tickets starting at $200.

Even if there have been a number of missteps, the surge in ticket sales on the secondary market also shows a great interest in Saturday night's race.

Gametime reported early Saturday afternoon that the lowest-priced ticket was $1,387, matching the cost of a three-day pass that was offered Wednesday. The high-end three-day was $4,613 on Wednesday and on Saturday the top single-day ticket was $10,635. Gametime later reported that the lowest-price ticket had jumped again, this time to $1,613.

TickPick has seen a similar increase. It's lowest-price ticket went from $771 on Monday to $980 on Friday to $1,128 by Saturday afternoon.

Betting on this race has been strong from the beginning, with BetMGM and Caesars Entertainment projecting record-setting handles for a motor sports race. Attempts were unsuccessful Saturday to see if those expectations were met, but if Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas was any indication, then it is a big weekend for those sports-betting companies.

MAX VERSTAPPEN WINS THE LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen overcame a collision and a five-second penalty to win the Las Vegas Grand Prix

Verstappen was penalised five seconds after he forced Charles Leclerc off track at the first corner. The Dutchman also damaged his front wing in a collision with Mercedes' George Russell.Ā

However, that didn't stop Verstappen from securing a record-extending 18th win of the season and 53rd career victory to equal Sebastian Vettel's record and move to third on F1's all-time list of winners.

But, how did the action unfold? Well, Verstappen started second on the grid and wasted no time or energy in pushing pole-man Leclerc so far wide the Ferrari man was almost in the Harbor Island Apartments on the outside of the left hander.Ā

Verstappen refused to concede he had erred, arguing over his radio that he was in front. He was. But, as we were saying, so far off the track it was hardly a legitimate argument. He was handed a five-second penalty. ā€˜Yeah,ā€™ he said with sarcasm to the stewards. ā€˜Thatā€™s fine. Send them my regards.ā€™Ā

Before the customary conclusion, Verstappen tangled with Russell at Turn 12 ā€“ the bend into the Las Vegas Boulevard. It was where most of the overtaken action occurred.Ā

Russell was at fault as Verstappen pushed his claims with his usual gusto down the inside, a bravura act. Russell didnā€™t appear to realise the Red Bull had come at him like a rocket and was right there beside him. He turned in.

As a result, there was a bit of damage to both cars, but not too much. The safety car came out and they pitted. The stewards slapped Russell with his penalty.Ā

Verstappen had the bit between his teeth by now. He is a driver with a short touch-paper and you could sense the fireworks popping inside him. He passed his team-mate Sergio Perez, ultimately to finish third, and then came the killer move on Leclerc.
