In order for the emission system in the 6.4L Ford Powerstroke to work properly, there is an array of temperature sensors that relay information to the truck's ECM to determine the efficiency of the EGR cooler. One of the common failure points is the outlet temperature sensor. This sensor provides the vehicle's powertrain control module with exhaust inlet temperature at the EGR cooler. Failure of this component can result in a check engine light and excessive exhaust emission.
