The Voice UK coach , 38, says his fiancée saved him in more ways than one, as the bodybuilder now has him on a fitness plan, and held him through his darkest moments. The singer gushed Amelia has inspired his latest album Marry Me after a four-year creative dry spell.

Olly met Amelia at a gym in 2019, during a time when the singer himself admitted: “I was eating f***ing everything. Anything in my hand, gone. I got big.

“All the cheekiness and the fun in the years I was single, it was just a facade. I was in quite a bad place at times. I just felt really s**t, down and lonely. I didn’t like being single.”

Fortunately, the two hit it off and the Up singer knew Amelia was the one after just six months, but didn’t want to scare her away with a proposal, thinking: “It’s too soon, she’ll run a mile!”

Olly had been catapulted to fame in 2009 when he came in second on and almost instantly lost his privacy and most of the life he had known before.

He told The Mirror: “My private life was nonexistent, I had no girlfriend, no one to share it with. I was always insecure about that.”

Understandably, the singer had a fair amount of trust issues that made dating difficult, but Amelia was patient enough to wait for him to let his guard down in his own time.

Olly candidly noted: “To be fair, our first dates were pretty c**p – even she admits that. I was very wishy-washy, very noncommittal. I was all over the place.

“I broke it off, but we rekindled things in the summer. I had an epiphany. I was like, ‘What am I doing, she’s f***ing perfect, she’s the one for me. Stop being an idiot!’.”

Amelia was with Olly in Bali when he heard the devastating news about Caroline Flack.

The musician’s friend and Love Island host was found dead in her home in February 2020 after taking her own life.

Olly explained the tough moment he was experiencing, recalling: “Lockdown came and what happened with Caz came. It was a f***ed-up time. Amelia saw me at my worst, at my lowest, proper bad.”

That same trip, Olly asked Amelia to move into his Essex home with him, which she did just weeks before the very first UK lockdown.

DONT MISS:

Last July, the Dance With Me Tonight singer proposed on a cliff in Cornwall while on holiday with Amelia's family in Plymouth.

Olly had told no one of his plans, sweetly noting it “was the one thing I wanted to keep private” in his very public life. Luckily, Amelia’s mum was quick enough to capture the moment on video.

Unfortunately, getting down on one knee wasn’t the hardest part of the day for Olly.

The singer had just undergone a third knee operation after an onstage injury where “my whole shin broke”.

Olly had been training for weeks to get the strength and flexibility back in his knee so that he could go on the hike in the first place.

When the moment was over and she had said yes, Olly needed his new fiancée to help him back up on his feet.

He joked with The Sun, saying: “It is lucky I didn’t start rolling as she wouldn’t have been able to catch me.”

The Troublemaker singer added his injury is also what spurred his current health-kick as he’s staying sober and sticking to a diet and fitness plan Amelia created as “I want to be a healthy dad, I want to have children".
