Spring has finally sprung and what better way to celebrate the change of season than with cupcakes? Whether you’re entertaining your little ones at home or cleaning out your pantry in the name of spring cleaning – baking is the one trick that can do both.

Making cupcakes is the perfect activity for kids. Trust me, as one of the oldest in my family I’ve been the go-to babysitter for my younger cousins on numerous occasions. You must keep them entertained! Baking together will have them focused on scooping and measuring – and decorating will let them get creative with colorful icings and sprinkles. But it gets sweeter: Your baking session can double as a less tedious version of spring cleaning in your kitchen. Look in your pantry and refigerator for some awesome toppings and add them to your delicious treats. Scrounge up leftover fruits, cereal and even candy to sweeten up your cupcakes and décor.

Ready for your spring cleaning (or activity time) to get a whole lot sweeter? Try these yummy spring cupcakes to entertain the kiddos and help clear out your pantry.

Adorn your cupcakes with strawberries butterflies, fit for a springtime celebration. Not only do you have the fruit on the top of the cake, but also packed into the center so every bite can be as sweet as the one before. Yum!

Transform plain, boring cupcakes into vibrant rainbow treats. Decorate with colorful cereals, candies and chocolates before the icing hardens on the cupcake. Get creative; no need for your cupcakes to all look the same!

Grab whatever boxed cake mix and frosting you have on hand to whip up these little ladybug delights. Complete these cute buggers by using M&Ms and milk chocolate malt balls for the eyes and spots.

Nothing says ‘spring’ better than flowers! Use those raspberries and mini oranges that are rolling around your refrigerator to create a simple flower design on top of the cupcake. A sweet and slightly healthier version of dessert!

Go nuts with this trail mix cupcake décor! Make a flower-inspired pattern with green pistachio kernels and dried fruit. Practical and delicious.

Don’t know what to do with those random pieces of candy and leftover snacks? Create this flower cupcake with chocolate-covered almond petals, bright gumball centers and jelly candy grass.
