Team Falcons Win DreamLeague Season 22 ‘Dota 2’ Tournament

Following

Team Falcons has won the DreamLeague Season 22 Dota 2 tournament, beating BetBoom Team in the grand final 3-0.

The win, which is Falcons' second major tournament success this year, sees them take home $300,000 of the $1 million total prize pool for the event, and will no doubt put them in good stead for a direct invite to The International 2024, which will take place in Copenhagen later this year. BetBoom takes home $175,000 for second place, with Xtreme Gaming taking third and $120,000 and Team Spirit taking fourth and $85,000.

Flacons dominated this season of DreamLeague but did get off to a usually slow start in the first group stage. Out of seven best-of-two series in the opening stage of the tournament, they only won two of them 2-0 and tied the other five series 1-1. This was still enough to give them second place in the group and qualify for the next stage of the tournament.

After the slow start, Falcons returned to the form they showed when they won the BetBoom Dacha tournament a few weeks ago, going 7-0 and only dropping a single map to top the group and secure a spot in the upper bracket final where they met BetBoom. That match was one of the closer ones of the tournament for Falcons, who narrowly pulled out a 2-1 win despite losing the opening map to secure a spot in the final.

BetBoom, who was comfortably the second-best team at the event having topped the first group stage and placed second to Falcons in the second group stage, then took down Xtreme Gaming in the lower bracket final to set up a rematch in the grand final.

The final went as most people expected, with Falcons taking a dominant win over BetBoom and not dropping a single game. The win cements them as the best Dota 2 team in the world currently and it looks like no one is able to stop them, especially with one of the best coaches in the world recently joining them.

However, there is no major tournament until the end of the month and a big Dota patch that features a new hero is expected to arrive before that kicks off which could shake things up a lot. While it would be risky to bet against Falcons going forward, we have seen many top teams fail to adapt to a new patch, so their spot at the top could be at risk.
