Excellent Shop

What a wonderful shop this is. We got some delicious local rye bread, an artisanal vegan cheese and a pack wholemeal lasagne sheets and I also picked up some BWC make up and plastic-free food covers. This is such a lovely shop but also does have some organic meat and dairy items.

Hidden gem

Popped in on a visit to Berwick and was amazed by the size of this place - it’s pretty extensive! They have a very good range of food and gift items, with the majority being vegan friendly. The prices were also very reasonable compared to other shops of this kind.

Pros: Good range, Reasonably priced

Aladdin's Cave

Great shop with plenty of vegan essentials and very welcoming staff. As some reviews already stated, the shop looks pretty ordinary from the outside but once you're inside, it really is like an Aladdin's cave with so much to see. We bought a coconut milk, which was reduced, plus two fragrant bath soaps. Not all products are vegan so expect to see some meat and dairy, but I would highly recommend a visit if you're visiting the lovely town of Berwick.

Pros: Vegan essentials , Staff

Cons: Not fully vegan

Horrified!

Lots of cool stuff; plenty vegan food items but I was horrified to be confronted with fridges full of body parts. This was the last thing I expected to see in a shop that calls itself "cruelty free"!

Great little shop but....

Have shopped here many times, it's a little treasure trove for vegans - really wish there weren't lumps of meat on display in their fridges though - seriously quite off putting.

Pros: Lots of choice and little treats

Cons: They sell meat

Wish I lived closer

I would shop here all the time if it was closer to Newcastle. Such a great shop with fair trade and ethical goods, and plenty of vegan grocery finds i’ve not seen anywhere else

great shop

If I lived in Berwick I would shop here.
Lots of vegan food and an emphasis on organic and Fairtrade. They even have information about brands which use animal testing.

Pros: people, stock, ethics

Everything you need.

Brilliant little shop that appears to stock everything you could possibly need. Fresh, organic veggies delivered once a week along with freshly baked bread, organic milk/cheese plus organic meat from a local farm too for the meat eaters. Lovely selection for vegans also.

Pros: Organic & locally sourced where possible, Friendly staff, cruelty free makeup display

lovely shop

Excellent selection of food and goods. Also clothing, scarves, gift items. Bottled organic microbrewed beers, wines and spirits. Local, organic, fair trade, not animal-tested. Wish I could have bought more, but I was travelling light.

Pros: organic, local, fair trade

Cons: sells animal products

The best selection of green goodies in the area

The Green Shop is an essential visit if you are looking for environmentally responsible goods in the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. There is an excellent range of food and non food products, and the owners have a policy of local sourcing for fresh produce (and are happy to discuss this with customers!). Deliveries are available. A good range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are for sale.

If you are visiting Berwick, there are plenty of picnic type foods which would be ideal for taking out on a walk around the walls (or to the beach). Locally produced Ice cream from Doddington dairy is available too for hot days. There are lots of vegan foods in stock, products are helpfully labelled for reference (including wheat and gluten free options).

Local crafts, postcards and ethical wares are available (everything from stationery to clothing). Go and see!

Pros: friendly and knowledgeable staff, good range of produce, organic goodies and gifts

The Tardis

Just looks like a fairly ordinary store from the outside but once inside you could spend a very long time exploring the various rooms, enclaves and shelves packed full of goodies. An amazing range of vegetarian and vegan foods, ethical toiletries, fair trade crafts, chocolates, cakes, fridge delicatessen section, fresh fruit and veg etc etc. This is one of the best ranges of produce I have seen in a long time. They do sell a small range of organic meats unfortunately but such is life. Highly recommended in lovely Berwick

Pros: range of products, special offers

Cons: sells meat
