There are few fashion power couples as prolific as Isabel and Ruben Toledo — she, the former creative director of Anne Klein and helmer of her own masterful label — and he her most steadfast collaborator, whose whimsically sophisticated style sketches have been commissioned by the likes of Barneys and Louis Vuitton. Though she’s been a fashion world insider for more than 20 years (hitting the mainstream when first lady Michelle Obama wore her lemony confection to the 2009 inauguration), the female Toledo added Tony nominee to her résumé with this year’s nod for her imaginative jazz age costumes for the musical After Midnight.

While the show won a statue for best choreography, Toledo — who launched a collection with plus-size retailer Lane Bryant in March — lost out to Linda Cho for her work on A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder. But from the looks of the fun had by both Toledos in the Tonys day diary they sent our way, you’d never know it.
Ruben snapped photos of his wife getting ready for the ceremony and documented the day — from her beauty routine to the sleepy late-night cab ride home.
