The show returned after a three-year hiatus last year. Created by African urban music and youth entertainment channel, MTV Base, the MAMA awards look to recognize youth culture, music and influential figures in sub-Saharan Africa with awards in 18 categories, including Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Collaboration, Video of the Year and Song of the Year.
“There is great energy around both Jhene and Young Thug following a strong year for both artists. We can’t wait to see them command the MAMA stage in Durban,” said Bruce Gillmer EVP, Music, Talent Programming and Events, Viacom International Media Networks.
Jhene Aiko and Young Thug will join global superstar NE-YO and African artists Bucie, Cassper Nyovest, Davido, Diamond Platnumz and Yemi Alade on stage.
Young Thug recently announced his long-awaited debut album is on the way, titled Hy!£UN35 (HiTunes).
