Religion and Art in Italian History
Program Description
Make your way to the ‘Eternal City’ of Rome with the opportunity to earn college credit studying the intersection of history, religion, and art in one of the most historic cities in the world.
The course begins with four full days of intensive lectures at HCC. In Italy, you will experience some of the greatest artwork in the world. You will see the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museums and see works by Michelangelo, Bernini, Caravaggio, and Fra Angelico in their original settings in churches across Rome. You will see the natural beauty of the coastal town of Amalfi and the hill towns of Orvieto and Tivoli. You will visit the wonders of Ancient Rome, as you tour the Pantheon, Coliseum, Roman Forum, Ostia Antica, Hadrian's Villa, and Palatine Hill. You will also tour some of the most important sites of early Christianity, including the catacombs and the Vatican. You will see examples of early Christian Basilicas and churches considered masterpieces of the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Students will stay in hotels in Rome.
