How could personalized systems make your job search easier in the future?
Personalized systems enable tailoring content and interaction to users based on large language models and biosignals. In the context of job search, for example, this could enable providing a personalized search platform to support finding job offers that perfectly match to the individual profile. Furthermore, personalized mobile assistants for stressful moments during job fairs or personalized training program that help to prepare for upcoming job interviews could be offered.
mehrWe welcome Niklas Heyden as a new team member and doctoral student researcher at the human-centered systems lab of Prof. Mädche at IISM.
Niklas holds a Master of Science degree in International Development and Public Policy from Nova School of Business and Economics. He has collected practical experiences in software development as product manager, digital consultant and web developer. His previous research focused on leveraging machine learning and natural language processing to tackle development challenges in remote communities.
mehrWe were very pleased with the industry talk by Dr. Christian Fleig given as part of the bachelor's course "Information Systems II". Dr. Fleig is an alumnus of Prof. Mädche's research group and now works as a Team Lead Controlling at the Lidl International.
mehrBachelor's and master's students studying information systems (IS) at KIT can apply for an IS scholarship. The scholarship will start on October 1st, 2024 and will run for 12 months. Scholarship holders are supported with 300 Euros per month. The scholarship is awarded by the non-profit association "Die Wirtschaftsinformatik e.V." and serves to promote young people in the field of IS. The scholarship is funded by companies that provide the financial support and are involved in the awarding of the scholarship. For the 2024/25 period, three IS scholarships will be awarded by Schwarz IT KG at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

The research groups of Professors Mädche, Satzger, and Weinhardt will be represented with 8 papers at the European Conference on Information Systems, which will take place in Paphos, Cyprus in June.
mehrDigital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) are playing an increasingly important role in our world - whether at work, at home or on the move. But what does this actually mean for us as a society and as individuals? Many projects on wir-forschen.digital - a digital citizen science platform on which citizens can actively participate in research and give us valuable feedback - are addressing precisely this question.
Your opinions and experiences are particularly important in this regulars' table, as they help us to align wir-forschen.digital more closely with the needs and everyday lives of citizens. In addition to an insight into current projects, we also offer the opportunity to try out the platform yourself and give us direct feedback.
mehrA team project of information systems students co-supervised by the human-centered systems lab (Prof. Maedche) and the Artificial Intelligence for Language Technologies lab (Prof. Niehues) has won the 2nd prize of the Data Excellence Talent Award in Vienna. The team has developed an Open Data Access Assistant for the EU Open Data Portal using large language models. Further information is available here:

mehrThe i-com Journal of Interactive Media has accepted for publication the paper "Cognitive state detection with eye tracking in the field: an experience sampling study and its lessons learned" co-authored by Moritz Langner, Peyman Toreini and Alexander Maedche.
In this study, we investigate the development of cognitive state models for cognitive load and flow using eye tracking data collected in a longitudinal field study with eleven undergraduate students. The study follows an experience sampling approach to collect cognitive state and eye tracking data from students working on their thesis project over five days. Using this data, we develop supervised machine learning models of cognitive load and flow.
mehrThe Business & Information Systems Engineering (BISE) journal has published a new discussion article titled “Hybrid Adaptive Systems”. Adaptive systems have become ubiquitous in almost all areas of our private and business lives. The goal of this discussion article is to highlight the different perspectives of different disciplines when investigating adaptive systems from a social and technological point of view. The article is a joint publication project carried out by the principal investigators of the interdisciplinary DFG-funded graduate school KD2School.
mehrThe lecture “Foundations of Interactive Systems” is targeted at bachelor students who are interested in the design of successful human-computer interaction in business and private life. It introduces key concepts and principles of interactive systems from a human and computer perspective. It also teaches core human-centered design processes for interactive systems and provides insights into the use & contexts of interactive systems in business and society. The course is complemented by a design capstone project, where students work in teams and apply design methods & techniques to create an interactive prototype for a given challenge.
mehrCongratulations to Dr.-Ing. Johannes Jakubik for very successfully defending his thesis on "Data-Centric Artificial Intelligence: Foundations and Methods for Deep Learning" at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) this morning!
A big thank you to the examination committee Ali Sunyaev, Sanja Lazarova-Molnar, and Hagen Lindstädt for a very engaged and deep discussion of the thesis!
mehrEmotions accompany us every day on our journey through life. However, each of us experiences them in a very individual way and in different situations. Developing a deep understanding of our own emotions and at the same time recognizing the emotions of other people is a valuable asset. This knowledge helps us to have successful and fulfilling interpersonal interactions. With good emotional awareness, we can also learn to regulate our emotions more easily, which helps us in various life situations.
