Melinda Schneider has ditched her country melodies for classic show tunes to pay homage to one of her musical heroes, Doris Day.
After successful shows in capital cities over the last five years, the singer-songwriter decided to finally bring her Melinda Does Doris show to regional audiences.
“It wasn’t until I started researching her life … that I really understood her personal life and what she had actually been through; she survived so many tumultuous things,” she said.
“She’s got a fascinating story, her personal life and everything she’s been through is quite unbelievable and quite inspiring.”
However the mum-of-one isn’t giving up her place in country music just yet, recently returning from a songwriting trip to Nashville.
The 44-year-old is aiming to have a new album of original material out by the middle of next year and admitted her son Sullivan has been a big inspiration for many songs.
“There’s one called ‘The Woman He Thinks I Am’, because kids look up to you and think you’re superwoman and do no wrong and I just want to live up to [that],” she said.
Schneider also hinted she will be releasing something else in October this year but wouldn’t say much except it will be “along the same lines of this show”.
