What exactly is the noise of two stars colliding? It’s this nebulous concept that underscores the haunting new recording, a cosmic rhythm with each stroke, by multi-award winning pianist Vijay Iyer and trumpet heavyweight Wadada Leo Smith.
Inspired by the work of Indian abstract artist Nasreen Mohamedi, the pair create sounds that arc across a vast sonic canvas. Kevin Le Gendre discovers this revered duo’s earthier connections and the silences between the notes are all part of their star-crossed creativity
