Sporting Kansas City is using Juneteenth in 2023 to support the Black Community Fund.Major League Soccer announced the 2023 edition of its annual Juneteenth initiative, “The Seeds We Plant. The Flowers We Share,” inspired by the art of Black artist Gianni Lee. To commemorate the Federal holiday, MLS tapped lee design Juneteenth-inspired jerseys.One of the 2023 limited edition Sporting KC jerseys has been signed by the team and is being auctioned off to raise money for the Black Community Fund, whose mission is to strengthen black communities in Kansas City through grants, resources, scholarships and giving.The Juneteenth programs are a close collaboration between the League, clubs, Black Players for Change (BPC) – an independent organization of Black MLS players, coaches, and staff working to bridge the racial equality gap in soccer and society. Fans can bid on the collection in the link above. A commemorative patch was designed to complement the jersey art. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase patches and numbers on the Black Players For Changewebsite.Through its recent Juneteenth celebrations, Major League Soccer has raised more than $300,000 for local Black impact organizations in MLS cities. The proceeds from this season’s Juneteenth initiatives will benefit organizations that support and uplift Black communities in MLS markets.
