    Science and Technology

The open-source Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) project facilitates volunteer and grid computing for a number of humanitarian and scientific causes. I run virtualized Ubuntu servers on Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services 24/7 to donate CPU usage in support the following BOINC projects:

    • IBM World Community Grid: donated computing goes towards biomedical research programs. Currently completing markers for the OpenZika research team.

    • IBM World Community Grid: donated computing goes towards biomedical research programs. Currently completing markers for the OpenZika research team.

    • Einstein@Home (University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee): uses a computer's resources to search for weak astrophysical signals from spinning neutron stars (often called pulsars) using data from the LIGO gravitational-wave detectors, the Arecibo radio telescope, and the Fermi gamma-ray satellite.

    • Asteroids@Home (Charles University, Prague): The BOINC application uses photometric measurements of asteroids observed by professional all-sky surveys as well as 'backyard' astronomers to derive 3D shape models of asteroids in our solar system.
