Adventures in immersive genius I promised I'd report back on my adventures in immersive world, and my first one this year was the brilliant Da Vinci Genius show in Amsterdam last weekend, which I heard about on a recent WXO campfire. Leigh Leigh Sachwitz from flora&faunavisions and team put this brilliant experience together. It's divided into 11 chapters relating to Da Vinci's life. He was obviously a bit clever, so lots to cover. What was great? As well as a vertiginous flight over an interactive floor in one of his flying machines, you're transported to a club-like laser environment with pumping dance music (1pm with a decaf coffee is my kind of clubbing I’ve discovered – and who knew Da Vinci liked a laser show?). My 12-year-old texted the Mona Lisa, "Hey bestie", and got her AI response, and we made beautiful optical shapes dance on the walls by jiggling our hands around. All of this is wonderfully narrated by the great man himself – well someone who may sound rather like him – along with evocative music to lead through the chapters. I'm always intrigued to see how designers bring artists' work to life in 3D. Let’s face it, it’s sometimes a bit disappointing, i.e. let's just make it massive and move around the space. But by becoming part of the story, and with the artwork responding to your movements, texts etc, this kinetic experience really connects. All of this, along with a great narrative, spatial audio, very different feelings per chapter and the beautiful way they translated Da Vinci's ideas, the show is very clever, rather like the great man himself. Highly recommend this touring show, thank you so much Leigh. https://lnkd.in/euBzwfc4 I’d love to know if you have been to a gallery, or show recently which really connected to you. If so, what elements made it connect? thanks for sharing your insights Charlotte. When Leigh made the kind offer of tickets, I was a little disappointed that I was already engaged in other delightful activities in Canada. I had a feeling the experience would be a treat!
