A Second Civil War? The United States of America is a nation built on the idea of freedom, justice, and equality. However, this idea is being challenged by a growing divide between different political, social, and economic groups. This divide has led to an increasing number of people asking if America is headed toward a second civil war. #are #civil #headed #interest #second #SecondCivilWar #toward #war

Reconstruction: The Second Civil War - https://lnkd.in/gY_sDPaz After four bloody years of civil war, North and South would continue to fight over the meaning of freedom, the meaning of citizenship, and the survival of the nation itself. Reconstruction brings to life this turbulent and complex period through original footage shot on location, primarily in the South (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina), and with the assistance of regional groups and associations -- the First Louisiana Cavalry Regiment, Company E; the Liberty Greys, Civil War re-enactors based in New England; South Carolina's Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition; and the Thirty-Second Georgia Artillery, among others. Reconstruction shows how, in just a few years, a series of stunning events -- the Emancipation Proclamation, the Fourteenth Amendment granting ex-slaves citizenship in 1868, the enfranchisement of blacks the following year -- reversed centuries-old patterns of race relations in America. People who for generations had been the property of others were now free to run their own lives. The whole Southern world was turned upside down. And yet, despite these challenges and terrible racial violence in this period, so much was accomplished. Reconstruction brought public schools to the South for the first time. Black Southerners were elected to local and national offices. And the nation committed itself to equality under the law for all Americans, regardless of race, by passing the Fourteenth Amendment. Reconstruction laid the groundwork for the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s, and the foundation for the American society we live in today.

Medicare and Annuities - Don’t fall for the nice sales pitch. The best choices for you are the worst for the sellers.
B Actor reading a script written by the people in his administration that pursued actions and supported policies that had implications for voter access and participation, primarily impacting communities of color: Appointing conservative judges: Reagan appointed several conservative judges to federal courts, including the Supreme Court. These appointements influenced subsequent rulings that weakened the Voting Rights Act (VRA). For example, in 1982, the Supreme Court case City of Mobile v. Bolden limited the VRA's reach by restricting its application to "intentional" discrimination, instead of "effects-based" discrimination, making it harder to challenge voting practices that disproportionately affected minorities. Supporting voter ID laws: The Reagan administration encouraged and supported the enactment of voter ID laws in various states. While proponents argue these laws prevent voter fraud, critics argue they disproportionately disenfranchise minority voters who may lack government-issued photo IDs. Opposing the VRA extension: In 1982, when the VRA was up for renewal, Reagan initially opposed its extension, arguing it was no longer necessary. However, facing bipartisan pressure and public outcry, he ultimately signed a 25-year extension of the VRA. Cuts to legal aid: The Reagan administration's budget cuts affected legal aid organizations, which often assist minority communities in registering to vote and challenging discriminatory voting practices. These cuts limited access to legal resources and made it harder for certain groups to exercise their voting rights. His crown jewel was a big lie.
"For this nation to remain true to its principles, we cannot allow any American's vote to be denied, diluted or defiled. The right to vote is the crown jewel of American liberties, and we will not see its luster diminished." - Ronald Reagan Learn more about our movement: nolabels.org/about-us
