On Friday I got into my truck to go home, and the dashboard thermometer said it was 99 outside. NINETY NINE! In May! That’s just too hot for me. But some of the plants love it, in particular Heliconia bihai x caribaea ‘Jacquinii’. This tall cultivar can grow anywhere from 6-14’ depending what part of the world it’s being grown in, with deep green sturdy foliage. The bracts are full sized beauties, orange with golden margins and green flowers that put on a tremendous show summer through fall. This selection is said to be a naturally occurring hybrid that was found in Grenada, where it thrives in bright indirect light along the edge of the forests. Like other heliconia, it does best in rich, moist, well drained soil. We grow ‘Jacquinii’ in 3-gallon and 7-gallon pots, where we allow them to get quite mature before shipping them. This allows them to be small enough to ship but mature enough to bloom in a reasonably short time period. (And digging a hole for a 3-gallon plant is certainly preferable to going larger!). Use it in the tropical border, the jungle garden, or as the centerpiece of large mixed containers. The inflorescence is also excellent for floral arrangements, where they can last for a couple of weeks if they’re cut when they’re fresh. So yes, spring fever is upon us all, and here’s a plant that’s just waiting for the chance to show off. Ready now in 3-gallon and 7-gallon pots. www.gardenind.com Instagram @mr_plant_man #plants #flowers #garden #landscape #nursery #tropical #landscapedesign #gardenlife #florida #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsofinstagram #flowersofinstagram #botanical #tropicalplants #wholesalenursery #nosmallplantshere #iloveplants #pollinator #pollinatorplants #heliconia #cutflowers #junglegarden #heliconia

In a hydroponic apartment garden, you can grow an array of compact and space-efficient plants. Leafy greens like arugula, Swiss chard, and baby spinach thrive in small setups. Herbs such as parsley, thyme, and chives flourish in limited spaces. Plants like dwarf cherry tomatoes and miniature peppers can also be successfully cultivated, bringing fresh flavors to your apartment. Word of Caution: There are specific varieties of cherry tomato plants that are best suited for indoors as some varieties can get quite large. #HydroponicLiving #ApartmentGardening #CompactPlants #SpaceEfficientGarden #LeafyGreens #Arugula #SwissChard #BabySpinach #HerbGarden #LimitedSpaceFlourish #Parsley #Thyme #Chives #FreshFlavors #DwarfTomatoes #MiniaturePeppers #IndoorGardening #HydroponicTips #SmallSpaceGarden #UrbanGardening
