I am very happy that this article written in collaboration with Petra Špačková (Puldová) is finally out. It took some time, but I am proud of the final result! 👉 Our study employs the concept of life course and explores the decision-making process of housing relocation 🏡 in a post-socialist city and how housing needs and preferences are confronted with what is affordable for young middle-class families 👨👩👧👧. 👉 Through semi-structured interviews 💬 in the Prague Metropolitan Area, our findings reveal heterogeneous mobility responses to family transitions and housing market dynamics. 👉 A significant trade-off is identified between having a garden and residing in the city without a commute, highlighting variations in parental perceptions of an ideal childhood. 👉 Our research underscores distinctions in residential preferences and housing choices in post-socialist cities compared to Western counterparts, driven by factors such as privatism, unique perceptions of suitable housing for young families, and historical development influencing intergenerational transmission of residential preferences. 📌 https://lnkd.in/gcDAYxs9 #housingchoice #middleclassfamilies #lifecourse #postsocialistcity #lifestyle #prague #JournalofUrbanAffairs

The importance and value of diversity, equity, and inclusion has become more accepted and understood in today's labour market. More and more employers are prioritizing diversity in their workforce and are looking to ensure equity and inclusion through their hiring practices. Yet the unemployment rates for underrepresented groups —such as Indigenous Peoples and persons with disabling conditions — remain high. To investigate the factors helping and hindering the employment success of such groups, my team at Free Rein Associates Ltd. has partnered with Life Strategies Ltd. for an exciting research project: Diversity Disconnect. We're conducting this research in the five rural communities of Agassiz, Hope, Ashcroft, Merritt, and Princeton. Our goal is to gather insights and stories from underrepresented employees at any stage of employment and rural employers in order to uncover the disconnect and bridge the divide. Can children provide valuable input into urban planning processes? Yes! Can children be involved in making urban planning decisions? Yes! Do we have the tools necessary to do so? We have some. Are we taking children seriously as reflective and capable citizens? Not quite - there is work to be done in this regard.
