When I first learned copywriting I couldn’t help but second-guess my ability to turn data into actionable insights.
I’d been a qualitative researcher for years, but I knew nothing about copywriting.
Did the same skills translate?
Was finding insights really about coding data?
Yes and yes.
But it's also more than just coding and organizing data.
There’s a step between analyzing data and figuring out how to apply it that feels foggy to a lot of folks.
.....because it is.
It’s not an objectively clear path.
Or. The path is as clear as your confidence.
This is what I tell my clients:
1. There is no right application; there’s only right data.
2. Data is not the answer; it’s only a guide.
Two opposite truths.
The data can’t tell you what to do, but it gives you parameters in your thinking.
It tells you what won't work and what will.
But the specifics of how you make that happen are up to you and your expertise.
Tomorrow I’m breaking down the process I use to go from data to customer insights and business recommendations and happy clients.
It’s not complicated.
It’s not technical.
In fact, it’s very simple and straightforward.
What it does is take you and your second guessing out of the data.
When you don’t have a clear process…
When you don’t have parameters to how you handle the data...
When you don't have a structured step-by-step...
You can’t see straight.
Of course you’re going to second guess yourself.
....and chances are high you’re right to.
You need processes and parameters to make meaningful insights from a
mountain of data.
