On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we want to take a moment to share with you a message which should not be limited to this occasion, but which must pervade our daily manners.   Violence against Women is an issue more relevant than ever. Our thoughts go to the victims and to their families, but also to you as each one of us is called to act by saying #enough to a comment or to an action borne by a mentality that legitimizes violence against women. Another initiative we have promoted across our Group is #postoccupato (Seat Taken) a viral campaign that aims to keep public attention high on the phenomenon of gender-based violence. It is a matter of physically occupying a place through the affixing of a poster to remember those who can no longer physically occupy that place because they are no longer there. A silent warning for those who no longer have a voice. Gender-based violence is everybody’s business.   There is #NoExcuse for inaction when you witness it. The Power of #targetgenderequality 35 imprese italiane, da PMI a multinazionali, hanno discusso oggi per 6 ore di parità di genere in azienda. E ne escono idee, piani di azione, ma anche emozioni. Target Gender Equality di UN Global Compact Network Italia è davvero un programma di scoperta, confronto, role modeling e continuo apprendimento. Perchè non importa a che punto si trovino le aziende o gli individui nel proprio percorso verso l'uguaglianza di genere: c'è sempre un dato, una storia, un progetto che ci fanno capire che c'è ancora un pezzo di strada da fare, per il settore privato e per la società - ma insieme il carico pesa meno. Engaging the next generation! These past weeks our Group was involved in different activities with local schools and universities: on-site events, job-fairs and technical presentations. A lot was achieved and learned from both sides. First of all – easy – we have to get out and show ourselves, who we are, our values, our culture. Second – not so easy - we have to face and understand the generational divide. Is today’s generational divide greater than the ones that have come previously? Probably yes. To highlight only a few differences: technology and relationship-building skills. So which is the best way to engage with the future generation? Well, what we learned is that the best way to reach the new generation is by having also our young employees interact with the students. Although our seniors are very passionate of their jobs, a chat with the youngest of our team shortens the gap between generations, and can be more effective. Il concetto di #opensource, già così rivoluzionario quando fu applicato agli sviluppi software e anni dopo ai progetti delle comunità dei makers, si può applicare adesso alla progettazione di circuiti integrati (anche grazie alla nuova piattaforma della IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society). Ne parlerà uno dei massimi esperti mondiali, il professore di Electrical Engineering della Stanford University Boris Murmann. La sua conferenza su “Democratizing IC Design: The Story of a New Movement” sarà dedicata il 5 maggio alla community di progettisti e tecnologi di STMicroelectronics. Dalla collaborazione fra Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna di Pisa e #STMicroelectronics nasce “Anticipazioni dal futuro”: università e azienda ci incontrano e confrontano sulle tecnologie del #futuro. Il 26 aprile Giorgio Buttazzo, Antonella Bogoni (Institute of Communication Information and #Photonics Technologies -TeCIP), Marco Fontana, Fabrizio Di Pasquale (Institute of Mechanical Intelligence), Calogero Maria Oddo e Matteo Cianchetti (#BioRobotics Institute) presenteranno alcune delle principali attività di ricerca di frontiera condotte dai loro istituti ai quasi 800 membri della Technical Staff, la community di ST a cui accedono #ricercatori e tecnici che, oltre a possedere un knowhow distintivo, sono impegnati in attività di condivisione delle loro conoscenze per favorire l’innovazione all’interno e all’esterno di ST.
