How Traveling helps to pick yourself up and make your future great.

How Traveling helps to pick yourself up and make your future great.

Before getting onto this article I want to deeply thanks & dedicate this writing to my lovely, crazy, genuinely, unpredictable friend Beatriz Sanchez, for allowing me to experience and learn of these amazing trips & who insisted on me to write this.

Let me start this particular article by saying i’m not the most experienced traveler nor professional human being, but I do share it with so much confidence what I’ve learned during this journey.

Since I was a child I always wanted to travel around the world and speak several languages, also becoming a pilot, an architect, interior/graphical designer, but I ended up being a Flight Attendant. Amazing isn’t it?

And if it comes to it, I can assure I have not regrets of my choice, so in any case I’m certain that traveling can help people to discover what is their role in this world, and it pushes us to become something greater than we’d never imagine we could ever been.

Since I graduated high school I’ve been too afraid of what’s coming on my way, recently I went through some horrible recruitment processes where I’ve failed more than 5 times, I was very insecure if this was what I really wanted, I didn’t trust myself I was too aware of society’s point of views.

Well, It changed since I started traveling around, going abroad and leaving my comfort zone behind, experiencing what is called in French “Depaysement” or the feeling to feel disoriented in a non-familiar place .

The first thing is…

IT DOES HELP YOU WITH A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.

When I went to USA for the first time I settled myself the challenge of not using spanish anymore and start practicing my english, the truth was at the beginning I was about to flinch when I arrived to immigration, but it didn’t happen, it takes time to get used to but it’s not that hard, the result was fluency acquired, vocabulary, better pronunciation and understanding of most of the topics.

I felt incredible to know that they were no boundaries at all, that I can get in touch with everyone.

When I went back for the third time, I was very familiarised with the language, every time I go back, I learn something new, you don’t stop learning, believe me.

When you become good at a second language, the others would just become easier to learn, when I realise my english level was good enough, then my french went too fluent that I was able to keep a phone conversation with my friend Verónica from Nice, France. I've never felt so secure and fluent speaking french before, it was until I left my country and become good at another language, that French turned out easier for me. C’est parfait!

ONLY GOOD VIBES + POSITIVE ENERGY.

I seriously don’t know how describe this feeling, but when you get on a plane from one place to another, you see so much different people and cultures that you can actually feel you have the entire world in a limited tubular space, you feel you can be part of something great, and then you realise you can get anything you want, you develop new ideas and strategies of how get over there, and if you’re just like me who likes to start a conversation with anyone, believe me you will feel so much better and if you are going through a hard phase in your life it does help to heal those wounds.

I do remember when I met with my friend at the airport I was radiating happiness all the way, I felt something like that will never happen again, we were so excited of what was coming ahead even without knowing what was it, I try to be happier everyday even when things don’t run the way they have to.
When I came back I brought so much good energy that I actually impacted the others (includes relatives & friends).

I was able to give assertive point of views and tips but also I was entitled to get what’s mine and think of myself for once. I can't skip the fact that I was a good energy dealer.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

When you’re not in your country you’re actually a “tourist" so you don’t live over there, nobody knows you, it sets the best stage to stand out who you are, what is your personality & interests. So you stop pretending to be what society wants you to be, and then you start being who you want to be or who you actually are, dress as you want to, there’s no rules, show that unique personality and you'll feel so much lighter, it helps in so much ways to learn how amazing YOU ARE, yes you, the one who’s reading this, everyone is a piece of art without being sculpted. Turns out you become self confident, assertive and interesting.

You become PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE,  you can even become your biggest fan.

Share your awesomeness with others who are different from you, you celebrate the diversity that makes life so interesting and intriguing. You have to take this keypoint seriously because it leads to the next part.

ATTRACTIVE TO OTHERS

I know it might sound superficial but it’s not. When you’re yourself and you stand out, you clearly develop some attention and interest from others.

I’m not trying to boast myself but I did feel attractive.

I received compliments, people were interested to know more about me. I did feel like an EYE CANDY, and it’s good to know you’re attractive to someone who’s utterly different than you, someone who don’t even know how to speak Spanish.

MIND OPENER

I think there’s none explanation needed, it opens up your mind to stop those reeking prejudices that still survive within our society, sometimes stumbling society, I don’t lie when i’m say there are cases when I believe they're just like puppets, so in either case it helps you out to discover new things in your life, to accept and just live your own.

GATHER YOUR THOUGHTS, SET YOUR GOALS, ACHIEVE THEM.

Yes! Definitely, I was able to think about myself, my pursuits, everything, I was able to analyse the smallest part of life, and I learned that there’s not time to achieve what I want, that I cannot keep thinking there’s an Hourglass counting even when there is it. I learned to enjoy this fraction of life, I also though about my next educational or career opportunity.

You challenge yourself to be outside of your comfort zone and try something different, I was able to explore as much as I could before focus in one “thing”.

If you’re lost without knowing what you want to be and it’s hard for you to find out how to unravel your future, it may help a lot.

I’ve already settled myself Educational Goals based on skills & passion, I also planned out how to achieve them.

GLOBAL CITIZEN

When you’ve been learning a lot of different cultures and you fall in love with diversity, languages and you start traveling abroad, it’s easy to forget where you’re from, and what are your roots.

I won’t deny I’ve completely forgotten I was from Colombia, not because I pretended to be from another place but because I Felt like a Global citizen just like the quote says “The Earth is but one country and mankind it’s citizens” and to be honest with you, I didn’t feel attached to my country, my roots, my culture, my “identity”…

I’m so thirsty about experiencing new things in my life and learn something that no one can take it off from me.

I’m certain that I don’t want to be in one place when the world is up to me… and I know I can’t stop chasing after my goals, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to achieve them.

Traveling is by far one of the best, Medicines, Degrees, Advices, Lifestyle, Therapies, it makes you feel still alive, gives your heart and head a break,  it’s so much fun but it's so tiring indeed.

In either case I just want you my lovely reader, to give yourself some good energy and go out, explore what the world has for you.

P.D

  • Everything is based on my trips as a regular passenger, not as Flight Attendant.
  • I’m not a world traveler but i’ve had the opportunity to be in Mexico, Panamá, Aruba, Curaçao and several cities in USA.
  • I’m quite funny.
