Bring on the ice cream cake! Westchester resident Jeffrey Tambor has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as a transgender woman on the Amazon series "Transparent."

"It's my kids' birthdays," the actor explained after the nomination was announced Thursday. "I have to get balloons and an ice cream cake. Tonight, we're going to go to a Chinese restaurant and have a great time and daddy will be smiling from ear to ear."

And Tambor deserves two slices of ice cream cake. He was not only nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Comedy or Musical) this week, he also scored a Screen Actors Guild Awards nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series -- no surprise considering he has been scooping up awards since he moved to Cross River in 2013. In fact, Tambor won the Golden Globe and the Emmy this year for his stand-out performance in "Transparent."

In September, the actor put the spotlight on the transgender community in his moving Emmy speech. “I had a teacher who used to say, you know, ‘When you act, you have to act as if your life depends on it.’ And now I’ve been given the opportunity to act because people’s lives depend on it,’” he said. “I’d like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your courage. Thank you for your stories. Thank you for our inspiration. Thank you for letting us be part of the change.”
