ANN ARBOR, MI -- A new restaurant is bringing a late-night burger option to Ann Arbor.
Dearborn-based Prime Eatery recently opened a second location at 1721 Plymouth Road. selling milkshakes, burgers, wraps, bowls, chicken wings and sandwiches.
“The big thing I want to highlight is that we’re open late,” said Prime Eatery’s Odie Odetalla.
The business will be open until midnight weekdays and until 3 a.m. weekends. The interior has a University of Michigan theme.
The new business took over the former location of Exotic Cuisine and Bakeries, which closed at the end of September after spending more than 30 years in Ann Arbor.
Jinan and Monib Elkhatib began that business in 1991 and it became known for offering French and Middle Eastern pastries, as well as cakes and other home-cooked family recipes.
Odetalla took over the business in April and spent a few months trying to continue its operations. However, he said finances weren’t improving, which prompted his decision to convert the space into Prime Eatery.
Tamara Briggs, daughter of the original owners of Exotic Cuisine and Bakeries, said she’s thankful for all of the support the Ann Arbor community has given over the years to Exotic Bakeries.
“I’m floored by the outpouring of support, love, and kindness,” she said. “The appreciation is unmatched.”
Briggs plans to continue to bring her family recipes to the Ann Arbor-area with a food truck and hopefully a brick-and-mortar location in the future.
