Vermonters know mud season all too well. And now, the term has officially been added to the dictionary.Merriam-Webster defines "mud season" as "a time of year (such as early spring) that is characterized by excessively muddy ground."In the northeast, mud season typically begins in late March when snow begins to melt and lasts through early June. It is often jokingly referred to as Vermont's "fifth season."Mud season was one of 370 new words added to the dictionary this month, including pumpkin spice, space force and shrinkflation.
