'Sweet Tooth' Season 3: Release Date, Plot and Photos - Netflix Tudum
- Season 3 will be an “arctic story.”April 17, 2024
Grab your coats — we’re venturing to Alaska in the new teaser for the third and final season of Sweet Tooth. The epic conclusion to Gus’ (Christian Convery) journey will play out over eight episodes (the same length as the previous two seasons), almost precisely how showrunner Jim Mickle intended from the start.
“In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell, and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life,” Mickle told Netflix of Season 3, which was shot in New Zealand. “At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be. The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going.”

What is Sweet Tooth Season 3 about?
The colorful postapocalyptic series begins at an isolated home in Yellowstone and follows Gus and Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) as they make their way to Colorado. The second season eventually brings the duo back to Yellowstone, but only for a short time: The finale ends with Gus, Jepperd, Wendy (Naledi Murray), and Bear (Stefania LaVie Owen) setting out for icy Alaska in search of Gus’ mother, Birdie (Amy Seimetz) — and that’s where Season 3 picks up.
As Birdie tries to uncover the mysterious origins of the deadly Sick, Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar) joins Gus, Jepperd, and company on their trek to Alaska, but he might hold his own dangerous beliefs about Gus and his role in reversing the virus. Meanwhile, a new threat emerges in the form of Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao), her daughter Rosie (Kelly Marie Tran), and the ferocious Wolf Boys, who seek to restart human birth and view Gus as the solution to their plans. With the clock to find answers running out, alliances are tested and destinies intertwine, all leading to a thrilling climax that’ll determine the fate of humanity and hybrids. “Who will survive?” Gus wonders in the brand-new Season 3 teaser above.
“[It’s] another road trip story like Season 1, but in a very different way,” Mickle tells Tudum. “Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2.”
Sweet Tooth’s setting isn’t the only difference in Season 3. Convery tells Tudum that we’ll also see a tonal shift. “Season 3 is darker than Season 2,” said the star. “Gus is growing alongside the series, starting to mature as the themes get darker. There’s a lot he has to deal with, and it’s peak Sweet Tooth intensity.”
“In Season 3, everybody is dealing with some kind of wound or emotional loss, whether that was somebody in their life or a part of themselves,” Mickle told Netflix. “Everybody is looking inward and looking to move on and ultimately learning that life doesn’t stop. You have to keep putting one foot in front of another.”
Sweet Tooth executive producers Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell are excited about how the show’s final chapter sees a rise in tension. “The ticking clock of, ‘Can they achieve their goal before it’s too late?’ is ratcheted up,” Downey tells Tudum. Burrell adds, “It just keeps amping up. It feels like a culmination emotionally and you get to see all of these characters together and their philosophies really at odds. Tension is high.”

Who’s in the cast of Sweet Tooth Season 3?
The Sweet Tooth cast will expand with the addition of two new series regulars: Cara Gee (The Expanse) as Siana and Ayazhan Dalabayeva (Night Swim) as her hybrid daughter, Nuka. You can also expect to see more of Amy Seimetz’s Birdie, Gus’ mother, and Rosalind Chao’s Zhang, the sole remaining member of the Three, because both stars have been upgraded to series regulars, too.
As previously mentioned, Kelly Marie Tran will play Zhang’s daughter, Rosie, who serves as a top lieutenant in Zhang’s army. As the tip of Zhang’s spear, Rosie and the Wolf Boys are sent to pursue Gus and bring him back to the family ranch. Desperate to redeem herself over her past mistakes, Rosie longs for her mother’s approval and ruthlessly carries out her orders, even when she doesn’t agree with them.
