For over three decades, the multiple-award-winning South African gospel musician, Bishop Benjamin Dube, has ministered the Word of God through music and blessed every household in and outside the country.

He plans to go big to celebrate 60 years of life and grace. The icon is set to record a live album, Legendary In His Presence, on November 5 at the Sun City Superbowl.

In the years he spent ministering the gospel, he released over 20 albums and has been a father figure and mentor to many, including his sons, the Dube Brothers, who followed in his footsteps, as well as leading a gospel group, Spirit of Praise, which just released its eighth album.

Dube said he was thrilled and grateful to be recording this project.

He added:

Legendary In His Presence means my whole life. It celebrates the life that I have lived, and I thank God for it. It says that God has been good to me, and I can celebrate that, and not only celebrate my life, but I would also love to celebrate other people, especially those who saw me when I started, supported me, and believed in my ministry.

He explained: “We have certainly gone through a difficult time, and for me to have the opportunity again to record is an honour.

“I thank God for it because I believe that this means that God preserved me so that I may continue to be a blessing to his people.”

The 60-year-old veteran will share the stage with other legendary artists, including the queen of gospel music, Rebecca Malope, Sipho Makhabane, Winnie Mashaba, MTN Joyous Celebration, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Soweto Gospel Choir, Lindelani Mkhize, Lebo Sekgobela, and the multi-Grammy-award winners, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Dube said he chose these artists because they were South Africa's gems and pride.

He noted:

These artists are icons. They are more like the foundation of the music industry in South Africa, and I feel they deserve to be celebrated while they are still alive. We have a few who passed on, the likes of Deborah Fraser and Vuyo Mokoena, so I saw it fit that we should not be found guilty of not celebrating people while they are still alive.

“I am saying ‘thank you, Lord, for blessing us with such gifts in South Africa and Africa as a whole’. Someone has to write the story of the South African gospel music, which is just a tip I am presenting to the people.”

Dube says on the night of the live recording, he will take his supporters back to where he started. He promised to perform his old songs and a few new worship songs.

“We are going to celebrate, we are going to have a great time, but at the same time, we are coming to the presence of the Lord,” concluded Dube.
