Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Engine and gearbox

Under the hood, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder comes with a 1.5-litre,
three-cylinder strong hybrid engine that produces a combined output of 116 hp
(92 hp from the engine and 80 hp from the electric motor). In terms of torque
output, the petrol engine develops 122 Nm while the electric motor puts out 141
Nm. This engine is only available with an e-Drive automatic gearbox, which
functions similarly to a CVT unit.

There is also a 1.5-litre Maruti-sourced K-Series mild
hybrid petrol engine that develops 102 hp and 135 Nm. This engine can be had
with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic
gearbox, with the former also available with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Features

Toyota has packed the Hyryder with a fairly lengthy features
list, with the fully kitted V trim getting a 9-inch Smart Play Cast
infotainment system, ‘iConnect’ connected car technology (with more than 55
features, ambient lighting in footwell, keyless entry and go, split-folding
rear seats, rear centre armrest, rear AC vents, a panoramic sunroof, 360-
degree parking cameras and six airbags.

There are some features restricted to only the top-spec SHEV
variant, including the 7-inch digital instrument display, a Head-up Display
(HUD), wireless charger, full ambient lighting package, and the ventilated
front seats.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Rivals

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SHEV competes with the
higher variants of midsize SUV like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen
Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Hector and Tata Harrier, as well as the upcoming Maruti
Suzuki Grand Vitara
, which will be launched by the end of September. However, it also rivals the only other model in our
market to offer a SHEV powertrain under Rs 20 lakh — the Honda City Hybrid — which at Rs 19.89
lakh, happens to be Rs 90,000 pricier than the equivalent Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
