May 27, 2004 Casper Star-Tribune B3 OBITUARIES Kermit 'Kerm' CASPER Memorial services for Kermit "Kerm" Owen, 66, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Christian Church of Vista West, 8188 Zero Road. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. June 5 in Lewistown, City Cemetery. He died May 24, 2004.

Born Dec. 10, 1937, in Lewistown, he was the son of Sheridan "Ted" and Helen (Turck) Owen; and graduated from Stanford High School in 1956. He then attended Nebraska Christian College, where he met the love of his life, Garnet Alene Parker. They were married in August 1958. While attending college, he ministered to the church in Harlan, Iowa.

Over the years, he faithfully served the communities in which he lived and was assistant manager of Hested's in Norfolk and South Omaha, delivered milk in Omaha; operated heavy equipment for Judith Basin County, was fire chief Sharon L. Carp in Henrietta, Ohio. of the volunteer fire department in Hobson, and was a deputy sheriff in Judith Basin County. Survivors include his wife of 45 years of Casper; daughter, Faye Crenshaw, and her husband of Klamath Falls, son, Curt Owen, and his wife of Big Sandy, five grandchildren; sister, Donna Owen of Vancouver, and brother, Dale Owen of Billings, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents.

LARAMIE Memorial services for longtime Laramie resident Donald L. Blackstone 94, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the United Presbyterian Church in Laramie. He died May 24, 2004. Born June 16, 1909, in Chinook, he was the son of D.L.

and Sarah (McKibbon) Blackstone; and graduated from Chinook High School in 1927. He earned a bachelor of science degree in geology from the University of Washington in 1931, a master in arts in geology from the University of Montana in 1934, and a doctorate from Princeton University in 1936. That year, he married Helen Bookman of Cincinnati. They were the parents of four children. She preceded him in death in 1980, after 44 years of marriage.

After his graduate work at Princeton, he was employed by Standard Oil of New Jersey, now Exxon, as an exploration geologist, mainly in the Rocky Mountain region. From 1939 to 1941, he was a faculty member at the University of Missouri; but returned to work for Carter Oil Co. during World War II, part of the time as division geologist for the Rocky Mountain region. He joined the faculty of the University of Wyoming in 1946 and remained active in university affairs until 1984. From 1963 to 1968, he was chair of the geology department; and, from 1963 to 1967, was director of the University Science Camp in the Medicine Bow Mountains.

She died peacefully on May 25, 2004, at her home, with her family present. Born Sept. 24, 1931, in Thermopolis, she was the daughter of Ben and Marie (Spychalla) Moss; and, as a young child, moved with her family to Wisconsin to take over the family farm.

She returned to Riverton in the seventh grade and graduated from Riverton High School in 1950. While attending Hall's Beauty School, she met George Keralis. The couple was married on June 16, 1951. Later, she worked at Katie's Beauty Shop and Casper Supply. A dedicated homemaker and mother, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, fishing, and traveling to Deadwood, S.D, She had served as a schoolroom and Cub Scout den mother; Parent-Teacher Association KERALIS member and president of KERALIS Willard School PTA; Brownie leader; volunteer at Poplar Living Center and for Blue Envelope; and Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps parent.

In her later years, she enjoyed lunches and fellowship at Central Wyoming Senior Center. Survivors include her husband of 52 years of Casper; two sons and their wives, George Keralis of Moscow and Dr. Michael Keralis of Lincoln, two daughters and their husbands, Barbara Derby and Veronica White, both of Casper; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; four brothers; and a sister. Carl Robert 'Bob' Herrmann CASPER Services for Mills resident Carl Robert "Bob" Herrmann, 78, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church by Pastor Todd von Gunten. Military honors will be accorded by the Natrona County United Veterans' Council. He died May 24, 2004, at his home, surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 29, 1925, in Winner, S.D., he was the son of John and Christina (Martin) Herrmann; and was educated in Custer, S.D. He left home at age 14 to join the Civilian Conservation Corps to help support the family. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in March 1951.

In August 1952, he married Marian A. Gould in Newcastle. The couple lived throughout Wyoming and in Denver before settling in Casper in 1956. He began a 25-year career with Natrona County, School District in 1965 and retired in 1988. He enjoyed camping and fishing in his beloved Wyoming, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years of Mills; son, Bob Herrmann, HERRMANN and his wife of Casper; HERRMANN daughter, Shelly Torrez, and her husband of Denver; four sisters, Inez Bennett and Esther Lacey, both of Custer, Violet Griffin of Concord, and Bernice Aiman of Vancouver, two brothers, Paul Herrmann of Hermosa, S.D., and Donald Herrmann of Hot Springs, S.D.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Raymond Wayne and John Alvin Herrmann; four sisters, Frieda Rohm, Erna Bennett, Alta Effinger and Ella Bennett; and two brothers, Albert and Fritz Herrmann. Paul Anthony Nicholson PARKMAN Funeral services for Parkman resident Paul Anthony Nicholson, 74, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m.

today, May 27, on Spear Ranch on Pass Creek Road in Parkman by Fr. Rudy Rosales. Interment will be on the ranch. He died May 19, 2004, at Scottsdale, Healthcare Hospital, after a courageous battle with pneumonia and "valley fever." Born Jan. 21, 1930, he lived in Tulsa, until he was 42.

In 1972, he moved his family to a ranch east of Trinidad, and remained until 1977, when he moved to the ranch in Parkman. A devoted rancher, accomplished horseman, successful real estate developer, and stock market enthusiast, he spent more than 40 years perfecting a solid line of Angus cattle; and had an avid interest in selecting, breeding, raising and training quarter horses, polo ponies and thoroughbreds. He was known as a dedicated steward of the land and family man and caring friend and neighbor. He was an avid supporter of the Big Horn, Scottsdale, Krazy Horse and Eldorado polo clubs; was a founding member of the Chukker Club of Tulsa; and enjoyed wintering in Indio, until moving to Scottsdale. His first wife was Lynn Ellen Jillson of Tulsa.

They were the parents of three children. While in the Indio area, he married Marilyn Clayton Nicholson. They shared the love of horses through all aspects of the equine industry. 10, 1921, on the family ranch near Mountain View, he was the sixth of 12 children. After his formal education, he managed a ranch for his family in Uinta County, In 1946, he met the love of his life, Leslie Woodward of Rumney, N.H.; and they were married. After leaving the ranch in 1947, he became a heavy equipment operator and worked throughout the state on various road construction projects. During Wyoming's uranium boom, he was named foreman and superintendent of open pit mining in the Gas Hills of Fremont County. He later retired from Harris Trucking of Cody.

He had been an active member of Cody Elks Lodge No. 1611 since 1964. In 1985, he was named Cody Elk of the year and had always enjoyed the fellowship and friendship at the lodge. Survivors include his wife of 58 years of Cody; two sons and their wives, Craig Tripp of Rock Springs and Kevin Tripp of Scottsdale, four beloved granddaughters; three sisters, Kathern Dodd of Lyman, Florence Moon of Rawlins and Mary Gordon of Mojave, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Rita Mary Lubken GILLETTE Mass of Christian Burial for Rita Mary Lubken, 81, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette by Fr. Tom Ogg of Holy Name Catholic Church of Sheridan. Interment will follow a luncheon in the Savageton Cemetery.

A service will begin at 6:30 p.m. today, May 17, in the chapel of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. Visitation will be from 2 to 6:30 p.m. today. She died May 23, 2004, at her family's homestead near Savageton, of natural causes.

In 1969, he resigned after major legislation was passed to reorganize the Geological Survey; he continued on the Survey's advisory board for many years.

In 1981, he married Mary Frances Ricky. As a UW faculty member, he was given the G.D. Humphrey Award for research, teaching and service in 1971; and was awarded an honorary doctor of law degree in 1985. He was active in the Wyoming Geological Association and received its distinguished service award in 1979 and was a fellow of the Geological Society of America; a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and American Geophysical Union; and a charter member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists. In 1989, he was named distinguished geological pioneer by the Rocky Mountain Section of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists.

He loved the wide-open spaces, fly-fishing, and birdwatching. Survivors include his wife of 23 years; two sons, Andy and Will; two daughters, Mary and Sarah; two stepdaughters, Ann Williams and Jean Christensen; four grandsons; three granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a greatgranddaughter.
