March is Brain Injury Awareness Month

Veteran using a computer for treatment and therapy for TBI

Please join VA and Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Services to help bring attention to brain injury as a serious public health concern. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) affects many of our nation’s Veterans. It can have devastating physical and mental consequences that may result in disability and lifelong needs for Veterans and their families.

Since 2007, VA has screened over 1.4 million post-9/11 Veterans for possible TBI and referred those with a positive screen for evaluation with a TBI specialist. Veterans with TBI are served within VA’s Polytrauma System of Care, offering state of the science TBI rehabilitation programs at VA Medical Centers across the nation. VA also has robust research programs and collaborates with federal and academic partners to further advance the understanding of TBI.

Let this month serve as an annual reminder to talk to Veterans about brain injury prevention and care, and protect yourselves and your families
