Purnima Productions and the Port Townsend Food Co-op present “Trio: World Fusion Music,” with Grammy Award–winning woodwind player Nancy Rumbel joining local harpist David Michael and sarod player Richard Russell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Port Townsend Friends (Quaker) Meetinghouse.

The group draws from a wide range of cultural sources. All three players are pioneers of world fusion music, prolific composers, and masters of improvisation and ensemble technique, according to a press release.

Nancy Rumbel plays oboe, English horn and ocarina, and is well-known for her 31 years as part of the Grammy Award–winning duo Tingstad & Rumbel. She is a founding board member of BirdNote, a two-minute online radio program about the stories, sounds and lives of birds, and composed the theme song for that program, which is heard by more than 2 million listeners daily.

Port Townsend’s Michael has produced 24 CDs of original music, most of them released on his independent label, Purnima Productions. His music has been featured on syndicated radio shows, cable and network television, and in nature films.

Russell is a composer, performer, recording artist and teacher. He plays the sarod, a 25-stringed fretless lute from India, and was a member of the seminal world fusion group Ancient Future. Longtime friends, Russell met Michael in 1973 when both were attending The Evergreen State College in Olympia.

Tickets are available at the Food Co-op or brownpapertickets.com. The Friends Meetinghouse is located at 1841 Sheridan St.
