64% 11 Reviews Tomatometer 81% Fewer than 50 Ratings Audience Score Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, host of the home-improvement show "Tool Time," definitely is not as handy at home as he is on screen. He and his wife, Jill, raise three boys who are racing toward adulthood. The Taylor family often relies on next-door neighbor Wilson, who provides unconventional wisdom and perspective to the Taylors' personal and familial crises. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Home Improvement benefits from the rambunctious chemistry between Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson, but the series' sense of humor isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Erock Love Love Love this show! Such a wholesome family show we don't see anymore Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/30/23 Full Review Zack F home improvement was a great family show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review Sarah Caroline B An amusing expedition into the lives of men as they navigate their careers and domestic relationships, punctuated by the rambunctious antics of children. While Tim Allen is undoubtedly a national treasure, the true star of the show is Wilson, the enigmatic neighbor over the fence. His wisdom, humor, and profound insights elegantly highlight the importance of informal male friendship. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review scott l One of the few series I'll watch again every several years, start to finish. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member wow some of these critics are idiots probably in their early twenties and don't even remember the show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The Taylors felt like a real family living in a neighborhood that was a lot like mine. They weren't the Tanners and they weren't the Simpsons. They were somewhere in between, in the normal area. The husband and wife reminded me of parents I knew when I was growing up, and the kids acted and dressed like boys I knew in real life (I was probably between the ages of the middle and youngest boys). It was a show aimed at both adults and children (something you don't see much now). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Newsweek Staff Newsweek It doesn't help that four of Allen's one-liners -- delivered with an annoyingly smug leer -- are about "butt cracks. " Nov 29, 2018 Full Review Richard Zoglin TIME Magazine There are some amusing gibes at power-tool macho, but dubious prospects for long-term fun. Nov 29, 2018 Full Review Ken Tucker Entertainment Weekly The playful yet complicated relationship between Tim and Jill, the most interesting sitcom marriage since-well, since Roseanne and Dan. Rated: B Nov 29, 2018 Full Review Filip Vukcevic IGN Movies It's your standard sitcom fluff - it goes down easy and keeps you entertained, but it's not must-see TV. Rated: 5/10 Sep 11, 2018 Full Review David Hiltbrand People Magazine A relaxed and likable show...Allen is one of the fall's freshest finds. But all the best punch lines in the hilarious pilot came right out of his "Men Are Pigs" stand-up routine. With the writers out on their own, the humor seems to be thinning out. Rated: B Sep 11, 2018 Full Review Michael Hill Baltimore Sun Bottom line is that this is one hilarious half hour. Probably a half dozen laugh-out-loud side-busters and a couple dozen chucklers. Even the obvious jokes are so well-timed they get a laugh. Sep 11, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
