PROF Academy Will Assist Student-Athletes in Career Preparedness, Well-Being

Sophomores, juniors and seniors can register for the fall semester's workshops

GLASSBORO, NJ - Rowan University Athletics will offer the PROF To Professional: Student-Athlete Transition Program during the fall 2022 semester to all student-athletes who are in their sophomore, junior and senior years. The program aims to assist Rowan's student-athletes as they prepare to transition into the professional environment by providing education on mental health and overall well-being concepts, such as mindfulness and stress management.

PROF Academy is a virtual workshop series including components of well-being, career preparedness, and professional development, and mental health enhancement delivered. Rowan student-athletes are encouraged to enroll, at no cost.

"The overall goal of PROF Academy is to assist our student-athletes in being prepared to transition into the next phase of their life once graduating from Rowan University.  Using this holistic model, student-athletes will engage in self-discovery throughout the program learning more about who they are a person, understanding their leadership style and feeling prepared to apply for jobs and graduate school once the program is complete.  This program serves as a component to help student-athletes prepare for that next step, which is many times paired with worry and anxiety," said the JoAnne Barbieri Bullard, Psy.D., Rowan's NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative and the facilitator of the program.

The Student-Athlete Transition Program will consist of online modules addressing the above topics, as well as providing career development skills, including resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills and networking.

"We're excited to partner with the NCAA Faculty Representative and the Athletics Department in the development of PROF Academy. Student-athletes gain invaluable skills on and off the place of competition, and these skills are in high demand by the labor market. Helping student-athletes better understand and conceptualize these competencies will only support them in their careers after college," stated Bob Bullard, director of the office of career advancement at Rowan.

This marks the return of the PROF Academy, as it debuted in 2018 after the NCAA selected the University as one of five schools to receive the Innovations in Research and Practice Grant.
