Earth, Wind & Fire are being honored by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. by hanging a portrait of the band in a new exhibit.
A picture of the band from 1978, with the founder of the band, the late Maurice White, standing in front, next to his brother, bassist Verdine White, will go on display on Sunday, November 17 as part of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery "Recent Acquisitions" collection.
Other honorees for the 2019 American Portrait Gala include, scientist and Nobel winner Frances Arnold, Amazon.com founder Jeffrey Bezos, award-winning composer, lyricist, and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, Former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, and editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.
The Smithsonian said "these change-makers were selected because of their commitments to service, creativity, individuality, insight and ingenuity."
Earth, Wind & Fire are also set to perform at the 2019 American Portrait Gala, which will take place in the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard.
