TRURO, N.S. — Ethan Chitty is hoping a night of music will go a long way to helping the Colchester Food Bank meet their demand.

A 17-year-old living in Truro, Chitty has been organizing Food for the Ears, a concert on April 6 featuring rock and punk bands from Truro and beyond.

All the proceeds will help the food bank, which typically gets fewer donations after the holiday season.

"When I was younger, I used to volunteer at the food bank with my mom with our group, the Redcliff World Changers with Redcliff Middle School," said Chitty.

"They have a lot of donations and people in need around Christmas time, so around this time of year, it kind of dies down, so I think it's a good time to support the food bank."

The show will feature two sets - a rock set featuring StiLLGUYSARE (Chitty's band), Hyacinthus, East End, Captain Sunshine, Silas Bonnell, and Lizard the Bird at 3 p.m., and a punk set featuring The Pipeline, Negative Rush, The Orchids, Maul Crawl (also featuring Chitty), Sigsour and Pavel Stroke at 7 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m.

While donations are important to the event, and there is a $15 entry fee (either cash or e-transfer), it is also a pay-what-you-can event to accommodate those who may not be able to donate the full amount but still want to support the event.

Chitty also stressed it's an all-ages event, with youth under 12 allowed in for free until 7 p.m.

"There's not many all-ages events across Nova Scotia, or really anywhere, because everything is more towards the 19-plus age range for bars and stuff for music, so I think this is a good thing to have for all ages," explained Chitty.

The event will take place at the Best Western Glengarry in Truro. For further information on the show, visit @foodfortheears on Instagram.
