Live reviews

  • Leo Kottke

What to say about Leo Kottke, the man is a living and working legend. Hailing from Georgia, the acoustic guitarist has earned a cult following from fans and fellow guitarists alike for his fingerpicking style which draws influence from blues, jazz and folk. This great range of stylings and the sheer volume of work he has means that in 2014 the demand is still there to see the great man perform live.

It would also appear he has gotten better with age, as to watch him pluck the guitar strings with the speed and accuracy he has is really quite an impressive sight. You're also likely to hear his personal versions of tracks from fellow contemporaries such as Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash and The Byrds whilst he also has collaborative tracks with Chet Atkins and Ricky Lee Jones to name a few.

Between the easy listening tones, expect to hear humorous and strange monologues that Leo has hand picked from throughout his 30 year career, all with the accompaniment of his 6 or 12 string guitars. You're assured to hear about the glory days of the 80's and Kottke's early influences, this is one musician who has had a truly fascinating life and career. He has a number of tickets for dates available in October so get hold of them asap.

  • I have been a fan of Leo's since the 1970s and his live performance did not disappoint me at all. His humor and playing was everything I hoped for and more. When he started talking about some of the folks he has played with it just brought back wonderful memories of the great musicians we have lost and all the more reason to see those musicians we love and cherish. If he is back in town next year and I feel sure I will go to see him again.

  • Unfortunately I wasn't able to see Mr. Not the this last time. Could kick myself as tickets were sold out by the time I tried.

He's a very old dear friend of an important man in my life, they grew up together. So he's almost family to me.I will catch him soon!

He's so underrated and a sting star in his own right.

God bless all you Kottke lovers!

  • Leo is my favorite performer and have seen him so many times I've lost track (stopped counting shows after about 35). An absolutely incredible guitarist and funny story teller, he has never failed to impress. For anyone who has never seen him, you're in for a unique treat.

  • Love Leo Kottke! His musicianship is amazing and his storytelling is wonderful. We've seen him a number of times, at different venues, and it''s always a joyful experience. The show at The Birchmere Sept. 30th was no exception. Enjoyed it thoroughly!

  • Leo Kottke is a national treasure. Virtuosic playing on both 6 and 12 string, and stream of consciousness monologue that’s funny as hell. I’ve never heard anyone make a 12 string guitar sound the way Kottke makes it sound.

  • Awesome guitarist and so funny! I enjoyed his storytelling incorporated in between a few chord strums. Leo is very entertaining by himself, and when Keller joined him onstage...wow! Amazing! I loved the show!

  • Arguably one of the greatest acoustic guitar players of our time. And an amazing storyteller! The way he weaves stories in and around the songs in his set is masterful. I can't wait until he comes back through.
