Kreutzer und Knopp: St. Simpert, 1973D–1974

  • Augsburg, Germany, Show on map
  • #REL #Western Europe
  • The building is slightly reminiscent of the Berlin National Gallery. A square floor plan on which a reinforced concrete construction with a widely projecting roof stands. A roof which spans both the interior and exterior and is supported by free-standing concrete pillars. Opaque, windowless concrete walls contrast with the skylights, which occupy the entire upper part of the façade. The façade is therefore partly interrupted by set solid concrete blocks. The concrete coffered ceiling, which picks up the grid pattern of the windows, is also worth mentioning. With the help of another concrete and glass wall, the church is divided into two areas, a front area and a main church room.
