FEYNMAN, RICHARD P.
Autograph manuscript signed twice ("Richard Feynman"), [no place, no date, but ca. 1928/29].
2 pages in pencil on single sheet (5 3/4 x 9 in.). Creases where previously folded. Tearing to middle horizontal crease at right edge, minor tears to left side of sheet, two holes at top left and bottom left of sheet, staining to bottom of sheet, minor yellowing and foxing.
AN ENIGMATIC SHEET CONSISTING OF POEMS, DRAWINGS, AND A PUZZLE FROM A YOUNG RICHARD FEYNMAN
Likely composed around the age of 10, this playful piece consists of a poem with intentional misspellings "for de nize baby who hate hup hall de epplezauze." Included on this side is a drawing of a baby, surely depicting Feynman's younger sister Joan (whom he later affectionately nickname "Mooseface") who was nine years his junior.
On the other side is a poem titled, "What I Gotta Do," which looks to describe a day in the life of a fictional young Richard Feynman. Feynman was notorious for loving puzzles, and the present manuscript is evidence that this love began at a young age, with Feynman including a small clever crossword puzzle using a number of the words in the poem.
