IFLY Tampa indoor skydiving center opening this week in Brandon

IFLY Tampa, the first "indoor skydiving" center in Tampa Bay, will open for business Tuesday in Brandon.

IFLY, which operates more than two dozen such centers across the U.S., announced that its new location at 10654 Palm River Road, next to Topgolf Tampa, will welcome its first customers beginning at 10 a.m.

The facility features a vertical wind tunnel that's 14 feet across and powered by four electric fans that generate enough force to let participants float on a cushion of air.

All flight packages include a jumpsuit, helmet and goggles, plus training with an International Body-flight Association Instructor, a news release said.

According to iFly's website, flyers can be as young as 3 and there is no upper age limit, though the company suggests people with shoulder, neck or back injuries talk to their doctor first. There is a standard weight limit of 300 pounds.

"Our mission is to deliver the dream of flight to everybody, whether you're age three or 103," iFLY President Matt Ryan said in a statement.

Packages start at $59, which includes two flights for one person. Four flights for one person cost $99.95. There are multiple packages for groups, including some that come with videos of your flight session, starting at $129.

Individual flights within the wind tunnel last around 60 seconds, and the entire first-time flight experience takes around 90 minutes, according to iFLY's website.
