Description

In my world literature class, we spent about two months on a coming of age unit. During this unit, we learned terms related to coming of age literature, wrote our own coming of age narratives, read Night, and watched Life is Beautiful. Ultimately, this unit prepared our class for a grade-wide field trip to the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C.

This in-class essay prompt is the final assignment that students completed before the field trip. Students pick one of the three essay prompts and write either a comparative essay between Night and Life is Beautiful OR an argumentative essay of whether or not Night is a bildungsroman.

This resource includes:

  • Three essay prompts
  • Stylistic guidelines
  • and a four-class schedule for completing the essay in-class
