STEPHEN HENDRY is a snooker ace who is one of the biggest stars in the sport's history and is one of the faces of BBC Sport's punditry during the World Snooker Championships.

Who is Stephen Hendry?

Stephen Hendry was a professional snooker player in a career that spanned over 25 years and saw him hold the No1 ranking for almost a decade.

Nicknamed "The Great One" and "The Golden Boy", Hendry is regarded as one of the greatest players to ever grace the sport.

Hendry was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1969, and began playing in local pubs at 12-years-old.

At the age of just 16 he became the youngest ever professional snooker player after winning the World Amateur Championship twice - first at 14 and then again two years later.

 The 49-year-old won 36 world ranking titles, and this record is yet to be beaten to date.

What are Stephen Hendry's biggest career achievements?

The 49-year-old won 74 professional titles in his career, second only to legend Steve Davis.

He won seven World Championships and five UK Championships, making his total number of world ranking titles stand at 36.

Hendry also still holds a number of records, including most century breaks in one match (7), longest unbroken run inside the top 16, youngest player to be World Champion (21) and highest total prize money (£8.97m).

What has he been doing since retirement?

Hendry retired in 2012 after feeling unsatisfied with his decline and standard of play, as well as failing to combine the sport with commercial and personal commitments.

Due to his efforts in the sport, Hendry was awarded an MBE that same year.

He currently keeps himself busy by playing golf, as well as appearing on televised poker tournaments.
