Cyclist wins road race World Championship in Glasgow despite stopping at stranger’s house to go for a POO
A CYCLIST managed to win the cycling road race World Championship in Glasgow despite having to stop mid-race for a POO in a stranger's house.
Mathieu Van der Poel also crashed on one of the final corners and broke his shoe - but still managed to hold on for victory.
Crashing wasn't the only obstacle the Dutchman had to face as he went on to win the title.
The race was stopped for 51 minutes after disruption caused by climate protesters.
Activists blocked a road in a nature park just north of a road leading into Glasgow - meaning the peloton was forced to stop.
The remote nature of the area meant there were few places for the cyclists to take refuge - apart from one house.
And Dutch coach Koos Moerenhout confirmed that a number of cyclists made full use of the enforced stoppage by taking a toilet break in the house.
Moerenhout was asked by reporters if his cyclist had stopped off at the house for a pee.
He said: "To pee? I think for something more than that. Oh well, it makes for another nice story."
He also confirmed that Van der Poel wasn't the only rider to use the house.

He said: "The delay was quite long and more boys went into that house. I want to thank the people who were kind enough to let us go to the bathroom."
A refreshed Van der Poel went on to win the race emphatically, finishing more than a minute and a half ahead of the second placed Wout van Aert.
This wasn't the first time that a cyclist has had to stop mid-race for a sanitary pit stop.
At the Giro D'Italia in 2017 Tom Dumoulin was also forced to take a break when nature called on the tour's 16th stage.
Like Van der Poel, he also went on to claim victory on that particular tour.
