Jayme Heick wanted parents to have another option for baby supplies in Dickinson, so she and her husband Dustin opened Moe Moe's Garden downtown.

Prior to opening recently, Jayme stayed at home with her young daughters Ramona and Helen and did a lot of online shopping.

"It was difficult because we would get stuff and it either wasn't what we were thinking it was or the sizes were wrong and it was just really hard," Jayme said.

She wanted to save other moms from the headache.

The name of the store was inspired by the nickname Ramona's cousins gave her.

"They just couldn't say Ramona, so they called her Moe Moe," Jayme said. "The garden aspect is just trying to be friendly to the earth."

The store offers a variety of baby, toddler and mom products from booties to nursing supplies.

"People really love the children's shoes," she said.

Karen Feininger, a customer of the store, likes the blankets.

"I love the store and I love all she has to offer," Feininger said. "There's so many unique things she has in her store."

It offers glass bottles, rather than plastic bottles for babies, children and adults.

"Once the baby's done with that you can buy just the sippy cup lid and that bottle turns into a sippy-cup. Then when you're done with the sippy cup, you just buy a regular tight lid," Jayme said. "So your one bottle is transitioning you from birth to adult."

It's one small step to keeping children healthy and the environment cleaner, she said.

"My motto here when I talk to families is every little bit helps," Jayme said. "Whether you can cloth diaper for three months -- that's great. That's three months of diapers you keep out of the landfills and three months of chemicals that you keep off your baby's butt."

From waterproof bags to snack bags, there are several options for customers to put their belongings in available there.

"They're fun designs," Jayme said about the bags. "They're fashionable."

It's free to use the play room at the store for baby showers and birthday parties.

"It's open every day for moms or parents or caregivers to come in and have play dates or just get the kids out of the house," Jayme said. "Last year the winter was so awful and me and Ramona went crazy in the house because it was too cold and too much snow to go anywhere.

In Dickinson, where do you take the kids when it's too cold to go to the parks?"

She'd also like it to be used for parenting groups and classes.

Kylie Simnioniw will be holding free prenatal classes there beginning Wednesday evening.

The classes are for women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, she said.

"The best time to think about your baby's health is really before you get pregnant," Simnioniw said. "We kind of talk about all the good stuff that can prepare your body to have a better labor and delivery, a better recovery, things like that."

Spouses are welcome, she added.

Jayme is open to customer product suggestions.

"If it's something I can stand behind, I'm more than happy to carry it in the store," she said.

Jayme hopes to expand on merchandise.

"As our kids grow, I think that the store will grow with them," she said. "We are aware of the products that we have in the store right now because of our own need for them so I'm sure as they grow their needs will change as will our shopping habits."

Moe Moe's Garden is at 32 First Ave. W. To contact Jayme, call 701-590-8549.
