The Rubettes might have faded into pop music obscurity but the band that shot to No 1 in 1974 are making a comeback in London’s High Court.
The four-strong outfit of session musicians who blended glam rock with doo-wop in the hit Sugar Baby Love are entwined in a court battle over the rights to the band’s name.
Their debut single was the band’s only chart-topper. It went on to shift ten million copies worldwide and cracked the US Top 40.
While their popularity faded almost as quickly as it emerged, the Rubettes have continued to perform together. But a High Court judge has heard that relations behind the scenes have been far from harmonious.
Alan Williams, the lead singer, whose vocals did not appear
