Britain has unblocked access to key North Sea and European offshore wind projects to help to keep the lights on by reducing dependency on gas imports.
Liz Truss cleared the way for the UK to rejoin the North Sea Energy Co-operation (NSEC) body, a European but non-EU organisation, after Britain was excluded after Brexit.
She also began talks with France, to continue at a special summit next year, on building nuclear power plants. “We’re working with our partners so we’re never in the same position again of being dependent on Russia, and Russia using energy as leverage against free democracies,” she said.
The energy breakthroughs came at the first meeting of a new European Political Community (EPC) of 44 countries, including the EU’s 27 member
