Where did you spend your last holiday?

Pennington, KwaZulu-Natal.

What was the best thing you did while there?

Got a call from the office saying I could extend my vacation.

Your favourite city abroad?

New York.

What must a first-time visitor do there?

Stand, look and recall your favourite Law & Order episodes.

What should they not bother with?

Car hire, currency calculations and blending in.

What was your best holiday, ever?

A round trip with my fiancée - London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels. We did books and museums and behaved like we had all the time in the world.

Which is the worst hotel you have stayed in?

Outside George, I stayed in a guesthouse with armpit-smelling sheets and blood on the mattress.

What is the best thing you have been given on holiday . or pinched from a hotel?

I always polish off everything in the bar fridge. I have no qualms about drinking a beer and eating chocolate at the same time.

Who would be your fantasy holiday companion and why?

Grace Mugabe. We can spend some!

Your favourite restaurant, anywhere?

The Spice Market (in New York's Meatpacking District).

What is the most exotic dish you've ever eaten on holiday?

Those juicy eyes stabbed from Karoo skaapkop.

One place you want to see before you die?

St Petersburg and Scandinavia are on my bucket list.

What do you avoid on holiday?

Socialising and anything I can do at home.

What's your best piece of travel advice?

Drink lots of water and sleep a lot in transit.

One travel destination you would call "never again"?

Cairo. Look at the pyramids, the Nile and the museum and then go home.
