As of July 1, 2021, the NCAA authorized college athletes to engage in endorsement arrangements utilizing their name, image, and likeness (NIL). In response, many states subsequently enacted or amended state legislation to further govern or restrict these types of arrangements and state athletic associations issued policies of their own, and more recently, many federal senators and congressmen have proposed federal bills governing NIL rights and responsibilities. Below we've provided a survey of current NIL laws and policies relevant to student athletes in each state.
